The Jupiter Chapter hosted Rayna Gillman!

The Jupiter Chapter hosted Rayna Gillman for its February meeting and enjoyed the liberating of improvisational piecing.   See the great photos attached.

In cooperation with Quilter’s Choice, our chapter will also be hosting a celebration of quilting at the Jupiter Community Center from March 23 through the end of April.  Modern, traditional, contemporary and art quilts will be on display at the Military Trail Location.  Quilts will be drawn from the community at large.  Contact the shop or Joan for more details.

A Quilting Evolution

I went to the Cornell Museum today to see the exhibit A Quilting Evolution. Nearly 100 quilts skillfully and artfully made by members of the Gold Coast Quilting Guild.
Here are photos of some of the modern quilts to inspire you.
Photos don't do them justice. Go see the quilts while they are on exhibit. Details about the museum and exhibit are on our Quilt Exhibits page.

QuiltCon - Block Contest!

Our parent guild, the Modern Quilt Guild, recently announced that they will be holding their first-ever quilting conference in February 2013 in Austin, Texas!  "QuiltCon" will feature amazing speakers and teachers (some of the best in the modern quilting movement), and it sounds like an incredible time.  You can find out more about QuiltCon HERE.

As part of the event, a QuiltCon Block Challenge was just posted!  Submit a 12.5 inch block in the QuiltCon logo's colors, and you could become part of the official QuiltCon raffle quilt.  All blocks that are submitted will become part of quilts for Austin's children's shelter.  A win-win!

Modern Quilt Entries - Houston Show

A new member of our guild just sent some exciting modern quilting news!

The International Quilt Guild hosts the quilt show in Houston each year (possibly the largest quilt show in the country?).  For the 2012 show, they are having a "Modern Quilt Guild Showcase," which will highlight a selection of modern quilts!

Sample - "Orange Crush" by Jacquie Gehring

Sample - Picture Day by Elizabeth Hartman
If you are interested in entering one of your quilts for consideration, please click HERE for instructions.  Quilt entries must be received by March, 2012.  It sounds like an incredible opportunity to be included in a prestigious quilt show!

As an aside, this might also be a great opportunity for our guild to enter a group quilt for consideration.  It would be great to discuss it at our inaugural meeting THIS Saturday morning at Stitchcraft!  See you soon.  :)
