English paper piecing tutorial!

As a reminder, the December meeting of the Boca chapter will be a low-key holiday party!  Come chat with friends, catch up on the latest news and try some yummy snacks while you get some relaxing hand-sewing done!  Please bring:

1.  A hand-sewing project that you are currently working on.  If you don't have a project in progress, you can try English Paper Piecing!  Just bring a bunch of scraps at least 4 inches square, scissors, hand sewing needle, thread and a thimble.  We have hexagon papers and folks who will teach you the basics.
2.  A snack for the group (optional but yummy)!
3. Door prize items (optional, and a great way to clean out your sewing closet).

See you on Saturday, December 21st at StitchCraft in Boca Raton, from 10am to 12pm!

JUPITER – OCTOBER MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

There were 18 of us for the October 19 meeting, including 2 new folks who joined us.   Door prizes were first on the agenda – but only two of them!  Guess most everyone forgot to bring something, or should we revisit this?

Sharing was highlighted by the fabrics from exotic and far flung locations.
Alaine

Angela
We saw jaw=dropping fabrics from New Zealand, Italy, Germany, Africa and Japan as well as some wonderful selections from within the states – Alaska, Michigan, Hawaii, Route 66, Oregon and Lake Superior.   What a great way to remind us of our travels.  And some of them actually get worked into a quilting project!

Craftsy Demo by Claire
Claire introduced us to the wonders of Craftsy, starting with a new membership for Alaine.  It’s a great way to learn new techniques of start a project, all from the comfort of your own home.   There are both free and fee based classes with.  Several of our members have actually taken classes – free-motion quilting with Angela Walters, for example.

Block swap

Denise

Block Swap this month featured hexagons, with as many interpretations as there are members in this creative group.  Joann picked up her circle blocks from last month and Denise was the happy winner of the hexagons.

JoAnn won the Sept. Block Swap!
Next month we’l see how they put triangles to use.

Wonky Stars
Block Party participants handed Patti some great wonky stars, sure to find their way into a fun quilt soon.
Barbara
Barbara has drafted her own block for us to prepare for next month, complete with a color chart and  diagrams.  It can be either paper-pieced or sewn in log cabin fashion.

Show & Tell...

The program for November 16 focuses on hexagons.  Joan will show us several ways to make them and provide for practicing a new/old construction technique.  Everyone should bring scissors and hand sewing needles.  Fabric and thread will be provided.

December’s  gathering will take place on December 7 as a sew-in at Quilters’ Choice.  We have the whole day so members can drop in as their schedule permits, knosh on each other’s edible contributions and have time to work on their own projects .  Some were quite taken with the shoes seen on the Craftsy page and these may very well be one of the projects underway.

Finally, Maureen McNally announced that she will be the tour escort on a visit to Ireland next June.  She provided us with flyers and left a number at the store.
