Meeting Notes - March 15, 2014

concepts at the June meeting of the Marrtin County Quilt Guild. Maureen invited all to attend. Joan asked that we bring in examples of
modern quilts to the May meeting.

The group discussed
the possibility of inviting Rayna Gillman to have a hands-on class or lecture
with our group in 2015. She will be in
the area and we can tag onto her “in area” visit with no travel expenses
charged. A cost of approximately $40 per
person was discussed and agreed upon if we have enough participants. Perhaps the Martin County Quilt Guild may be
interested; Maureen will pursue.
PROGRAM: Mug
Rugs
Nan shared examples of mug rugs with
a modern theme, different techniques in piecing, applique and Pictures came
from the “Pinterest” website. Nan demo’d
Big Stitch quilting with large eye needles, and colorful perle cotton
thread. Fabric, thread, needles and
batting were provided for hands-on play time.
BLOCK WORK
Block Swap – Stars were the shape of the month. 16 ½” block with cream background and bright
colored stars either appliqued or pieced into the block. Next month’s block will be a modern log cabin
in R.O.Y.G.B.I.V. colors
Block Party – Donna was this month’s recipient of her tan & brown
Fence Rail blocks
Next month’s block goes to Kathy who
chose a courthouse steps pattern
APRIL
Next month’s meeting will focus on
embellishment, with members bringing examples and sharing techniques.
