Holiday Swap in November

Let's have a fun Holiday Swap at the November Meeting.

Checkout Pinterest board SFMQG SWAP which has @30 quilty tutorials to make.

  • Members can make something from this selection using modern fabric - no holiday fabric,
  • Wrap it up in modern fabric.
  • Bring to November meeting to swap.
  • If you make one you take one.
We can all check them out at the Sewcial after the meeting.

Post picture and your experience making it on your Instagram or members Facebook page using the hashtag #sfmqgswap. I'll make a raffle list for each post and someone will win something cute.

We might get some great ideas to make presents for gift giving.

Please only swap something you would love to receive yourself.

  4. Yes well sorta :-) The reason is that we wanted to make sure that cute newly make modern quilty gifts were turned in and that the members would try to make something new to them. But if you have a special modern quilty gift item you like to make please share the picture and/or tutorial link with us (here or FB) and I'm sure it will be fine to include in the swap.

  5. I think being Modern means to make something outside the box. It should not include a list to choose from.
Choosing from a list means that we are copying someone else's idea, not our own.

    1. Patti you are absolutely correct and go for it! Please post a pic and description to FB - we'd love to see it and learn from your creativity. I've had a few not so great experiences with swaps and just wanted to make sure the members (esp the new quilters) had some fun ideas at all different levels to try.

    2. I might be modern but I'm not experienced enough to improve a sewing pattern for something like this, so I'm one of those people who need a helping hand! :) I hope that I can find a way to bring some of my own personality into it via fabric choices and embellishments. Patty if you do participate and want to give a short talk about how to design your own pattern for things like this, we'd love to learn from you!

  7. Hi! Yay a swap with real people.. not folks on instagram! clarification question: the mug-rug for example. -- this one https://www.pinterest.com/pin/421860690074191250/ -- would it be OK if I did the same concept but tried out my hand at improv quilting? I started to pull some fabrics from my stash last night and was wondering. Thanks!
